Tony Moran’s Italian Restaurant

One thing I’ve learned over the years on Bourbon Street is to keep an eye out for Mr. Catter Solomon. If you find him you’re also likely to find great food and attractive people having a great time. He’s a magnet for beautiful people and there always is a party of some sort going on around him.

When you are looking for a place to eat on Bourbon Street, in the French Quarter, or even in New Orleans Tony Moran’s is a great choice for Italian food. My last visit to the restaurant I had the Brandy Cream Penne’ Crawfish and it was just perfect. It was served with homemade bread that I could have made a meal of all by itself. The atmosphere in the restaurant is a welcome break from the noise outside. Now and then there is live music and there’s a bar that seems to be a fantastic place to mix and mingle. The bar seems to attract the better dressed professional clientele looking to let their hair down and have a good time.

So if you’re hungry and looking for a place with great food, great service (like I got from Mr. Henry Bostick), great atmosphere, and even more than reasonable prices stop by and try out Tony Moran’s right on Bourbon Street.

Beautiful Weather

It’s hard to believe it’s the end of January and temperatures are so pleasant. This weekend was just absolutely beautiful in the French Quarter. Everyone was in short sleeves and enjoying the sunshine. If only this holds out for Mardi Gras it will be a great time for all.

A street car passed by and we were greeted by the smiles of folks enjoying the views of New Orleans or perhaps just on their way to an everyday trip to market.

Over on the Mississippi River the Carnival Elation and the Royal Caribbean Voyager of the Seas breaks from port to make way into the Gulf for a more tropical destination.

After the sun goes down the crowds build on Bourbon Street under the glow of the neon signs. Even though the temperature may have cooled a bit there’s enough excitement here to keep everyone warm for the night.

Alabama 21 LSU 0

Some referred to it as the “rematch of the century.” It turned out to be the biggest joke of the new year so far to a lot of Tiger fans. Never the less it was great to see the huge crowds on Bourbon Street enjoying themselves and my congratulations to the Alabama Crimson Tide. Alabama has a great school and they have always taken pride in their football team. LSU will just have to do better next time.

Regardless of what happens in the world of football you can be sure of one thing, the party will keep going strong on Bourbon Street the heart and soul of the French Quarter. Come back soon!

Zeppelin over Bourbon Street

It’s not often one sees a zeppelin over Bourbon Street and the New Orleans Super Dome. But it has happened before. This has truly been a huge tailgating party and it’s not quiet over yet.

Regardless of which teams win or lose I hope everyone has a great time in the French Quarter and most importantly of all I hope everyone makes it home safely.

Alabama Fans Arrive

There was no shortage of red on Bourbon Street and around the French Quarter this weekend as Alabama gets a second shot at L.S.U. Ad that to the fact that there was a Saints game and you end up with crowds approaching the size we saw for Halloween weekend a few weeks ago. Bourbon Street takes on a different feeling during football weekends with people chanting the favorite slogans for their respective teams instead of the ones normally shouted out at women passing buy in revealing tops looking for beads.

Regardless of which teams win it’s a sure thing that everyone will have a great time in New Orleans this weekend and the weather is perfect for it.

Ralph and Kacoo’s is Great Again!

People often ask for the name of a good restaurant in the French Quarter and there are many. I had actually stopped going to Ralph and Kacoo’s because it had been bought out by Picadilla Cafeteria and the quality of the food was very poor. If you’re a local you probably know what I’m talking about. But a few nights ago we decided to revisit the restaurant and see if anything had changed, and it had. It’s now owned by someone new and the food was absolutely fantastic. We had some of the best Louisiana seafood ever and we were pleasantly surprised. Just thought I’d pass this along in case any locals had swore off the place.

And if you’re visiting the French Quarter and are looking for some great Louisiana seafood I highly recommend Ralph and Kacoo’s for the excellent food and the fast friendly service.

Street Cars

Over the years I’ve met a lot of people that seemed to keep track of trains, engines, and cabooses that they would spot while traveling. There seems to be a real interest or curiosity in rail travel. I think in the near future I’ll make an attempt to set up a gallery here at Bourbon Street just to display all of the photos I’ve taken of the New Orleans street cars. I’m thinking that like myself there are plenty of people that get a kick out of them.

While street cars do not actually run up and down Bourbon Street they will carry you right up to the end of it. And they are a great way to see the sights of the city.
